The future of Toronto start-up AppHero, which recommends iPad and iPhone apps to you based on your Facebook profile, has received a timely boost with the firm having just received $1.8 million in seed funding.

The funding has come from OMERS Ventures, Golden Venture Partners, and ENIAC Ventures, among other seed funds, which put in a combined $1.3 million. Another $500,000 came from undisclosed sources.

The AppHero app works by recommending apps to you based on your Facebook comments, threads, liked pages and profile data, and also includes a friendship tool so you can see what apps your friends are installing.

Creator Jordan Satok established AppHero in May 2011, and explained why smartphone and tablet users will like the look of AppHero.

"Consumers have been paralyzed by the sheer volume of apps, and often miss out on the ones that are truly best for them," said Satok.

"We have focused on building an innovative recommendation platform with a simple user experience to match users with apps they will love. This new funding allows us to continue growing our team to make our social recommendation platform more intelligent and expand to other verticals."
