Office for iPad mentioned on Microsoft’s support website
This news comes courtesy of French-language news website Mac4Ever, which recently noticed references to iPad support for Excel and PowerPoint, as well as Office Mobile for iPhone, on Microsoft’s support website.
No mention was made of Word, although this app is also said to be in the works.
Talk of an Office app for iPad has abound since the end of last year, when purported images of the app in action were leaked and reported by News Corp’s iPad magazine, The Daily.
As it turns out, the firm decided against that particular time-frame, with one line of thinking being that the software giant was not sure when to release the Office applications, especially with Windows 8 and the firm's first Surface tablet having just launched.
Of the most recent and credible rumors, The Verge reported last month that Microsoft intends to launch the Office applications for Android and iOS in early 2013, although other reports have said this launch date could be as late as May.
It has been said that Office Mobile users will require a Microsoft account, and those looking to edit these Word, PowerPoint or Excel documents will need to have an Office365 subscription.
