Twitter already has mobile apps for iOS, Android and Windows 8 Phone, but has now finally come to tablets and other devices running Windows 8 and Windows RT.

The native app can now be downloaded for free from the Windows Store, and carries many of the same features Twitter account holders have grown accustomed to.

Users can of course venture between the “Home”, “Connect” and “Me” tabs but there are also some newer tools that seem to be tailor-made for Microsoft’s operating system.

For instance, the Twitter app supports Windows 8’s Search and Share charms, meaning users can easily find friends or share tweets with others, while the “Snap view” option ensures Twitter can run alongside another app to the left or right of the screen.

The app can be pinned to the home screen as a live tile for quick access to notifications (for replies and direct messages), while Twitter opens up to excellent photography by letting users view and enlarge multiple images from the “Discover” tab.

Twitter, which recently acquired the We Are Hunted music discovery service, says that the app is available in 22 languages, including English, Chinese, German, Spanish, Japanese and French.
