Finding the right app or even just coming across one you didn't realize you might need in Apple's App Store can be a daunting task because there are hundreds of thousands to choose from.
Lists that show the best sellers or top downloads can be helpful and developers love it because it gives them more prominent exposure.
Mobile app analytics firm Distimo says in a new report that for iPad-only apps to get on the list of top 50 grossing downloads required an average of $10,200 in sales per day. Breaking into the top 50 free downloads on the iPad required at least 8,200 downloads a day, or about 2.8 times less than on the iPhone App Store.
(App discovery and ways for publishers to generate more app revenue will be among the key topics discussed at the Tablet Ecosystem conference coming to San Francisco on September 12).
Google Play and Amazon's Appstore require much fewer downloads and income to rank among their top 50 lists. For example, the No. 50 top grossing app on Google play earned $6,600 in May, almost half that of the iPhone App Store.
