Omni Group is working on a new iOS 7 version of OmniPlan for iPad

Hours after Apple unveiled the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S, productivity app developer Omni Group said that it is to release new apps that will support iOS 7 on the new iPhones as well as existing iPads.

In a blog post, Omni Group founder and chief executive Ken Case detailed what his engineers, testers, designers and documentarians had been hard at work on since Apple first announced iOS 7 at WWDC in June.

“What have they been working so hard on? Brand new versions of three of our iOS apps: OmniFocus 2 for iPhone, OmniOutliner 2 for iPad, and OmniPlan 2 for iPad,” said Case.

“We’ll be submitting final builds of those apps to Apple this week and you’ll be able to purchase them as soon as they are approved for sale in the App Store. We’ve redesigned all three apps to take full advantage of Apple’s latest technologies, and that means that they require iOS 7.”

The one piece of bad news however is that existing users won’t be able to upgrade to these new editions free of charge, with Omni instead insisting that the new apps are “completely separate” from older versions. Indeed, users will have little choice but to upgrade, with the firm planning to remove OmniFocus for iPhone, OmniOutliner for iPad and OmniPlan for iPad from the App Store.

“Please note that we don’t plan on doing any more work on thee iOS 6 apps: our iPhone and iPad development efforts are now fully focused on iOS 7”, wrote Case.
