The ‘Netflix of eBooks’ expands horizons from iPhone to iPad

by TabTimes Staff

October 16 2013

Oyster, the digital book subscription service that has been dubbed the “Netflix for eBooks”, is now available on iPad for the first time.

Previously only available for iPhone and iPod Touch, the company today updated the iOS app (free, iTunes) to bring about support for the iPad.

The news means that iPad users are now able to download the native app and choose from over 100,000 eBook titles and then also read similar books based on related titles and personalized recommendations.

New books are added each week and you can share which books you’ve read via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Other neat features of the app, which is optimized for iOS 7, include the ability to follow friends and sync your activity across all your iOS devices.

There is one rather big catch though in that this doesn’t all come for free. Oyster costs $9.95 a month, although the start-up is currently offering a 30-day free trial.
