A new developer survey shows nearly the same level of interest in making smartphone apps as making tablet apps - at least for both iOS and Windows.

It's the first time in the Appcelerator/IDC quarterly survey that developers expressed matching interest in both mobile platforms.

The breakout of the over 6,000 developers surveyed showed 84% interested in developing for smartphones, and 81%  for tablets.

However, there's still a much wider gap among Android developers, who expressed a preference for developing smartphone apps.
