Asus: Windows 8 will defeat iOS
Asus CEO Jerry Shen has boldly predicted that Windows 8 tablets will overtake the iPad to become the market leader in the tablet space, even though the first tablets running the OS are not expected until the end of 2012.
Speaking to Digitimes in Taiwan, Shen said that Windows 8 will benefit from its ‘familiar user interface’, and expects the launch of the new software to see it become the mainstream operating system of the tablet market.
Shen went on to say that Asus shipped 400,000 Android-powered Eee Pad tablets in Q2, and another 800,000 units in Q3. He expects the company to ship another 600,000 units in Q4.
The Taiwanese manufacturer plans to roll-out the new Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS - Android 4.0) operating systems to the tablets in December, including the forthcoming Transformer Prime, which is set for launch on 9th November. The Transformer Prime will have the quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.
Asus is expected to launch two new Android tablets in February of next year, followed by two ARM-based Windows 8 models in the third quarter.
