Research in Motion said today that it is slashing prices until December 31, 2011.

In an effort to stoke end-of-year sales, RIM says that from now until December 31, 2011, it will discount all models of its beleaguered BlackBerry Playbook tablet.

The 16GB version will now cost 13,490 rupees ($250), which is a little more than 50% off the previous price of 27,990 rupeees. The 32GB model will now cost 15,900 rupees, and the 64GB model will cost 24,4900 rupees vs. the previous prices of 32,990 and 37,990 respectively.

The price drop is similar to cuts RIM made in North America approximately one month ago. To date, RIM still has yet to crack the 1 million mark in units sold.
