New rumors suggest that Amazon could launch two new 7-inch tablets and an 8.9-inch slate towards the end of 2012.

The rumors come from Taiwan Economic News, which claims that the models will cater those consumers seeking a low, medium or high-end tablet PC. It is believed that a low-end 7-inch Kindle tablet will sport a 1024 x 600 resolution, with the medium-range tablet of the same size offering a 1280 x 800 resolution display. Taiwan Economic News says that the 8.9-inch model will boast a HD 1920 x 1200 resolution display.

The same source claims that Amazon is contracting Taiwanese OEM makers Quanta, Hon Hai, Prime View and Chimei Innolux for the low-cost touchscreen displays, with Chimei Innolux also said to be providing the 7-inch touch sensors. Quanta assembled Amazon’s first tablet, the Kindle Fire, which launched in September of last year.

Taiwan Economic News says that Hon Hai will assemble the basic 7-inch tablet (1024 x 600 resolution screen), with Quanta to be responsible for the 1280 x 800 resolution model. It is not known who will put together the high-end 8.9-inch tablet.

Amazon's Kindle Fire has fared well since launch six months ago. Market researchers claim that Amazon sold 3.9 million tablets by the end of 2011 to take second position in the tablet market, while Amazon itself revealed that consumers were buying 'well over' a million Kindle devices a week back in December.
