$99 IdolPad is one of two Android tablet releases from Idolian

Well, that may seem counter-intuitive, but most product companies can’t avoid using Amazon, the world’s largest online seller, to peddle their wares. Idolian announced this week that for a limited time it will distribute its new TorboTab C8 exclusively through Amazon.com, with distribution through other online retailers, such as buy.com and Sears.com to follow, as well as via cellular locations. The company also announced a $99 IdolPad available at its website.
Like the Kindle Fire, the TorboTab C8 is a 7-inch Android-based tablet, though Amazon has highly customized the Honeycomb version of Android. The TorboTab C8, running the Android 2.3 software, is about a half-inch thick and weighs half a pound with a multi-touch capacitive screen and front facing camera.
"TorboTab is the fastest 7-inch capacitive touchscreen tablet in the market at this price range,” said Idolian president Debbie Kim, in a release. She said she expects an upgrade to Google’s Android 4, “Ice Cream Sandwich” to be available later next month.
The company also just released another 7-inch Android tablet called the IdolPad priced at just $99 that’s available from Idolian’s website. Simon Lee, Idolian’s director of sales, said in a release that the company has already been “bombarded with orders” for the IdolPad, which uses a multitouch resistive screen.
Resistive screens rely on pressure to register input while capacitive screens, such as those in the iPhone and iPad, use electrodes to sense the conductive properties of objects, such as your finger and therefore require only a light swipe or touch to correctly recognize input.
While both feature 7-inch displays, a spokesman for Idolan also said the TorboTab C8 offers higher performance and components including the capacitive screen. The TorboTab 8 is slated to be available on Amazon either this weekend or early next week, he added.
