French contactless payment vendor TazTag has teamed up with Inside Secure for an NFC-enabled Ice Cream Sandwich tablet designed to be used for mobile banking, stock management, and taking payments.
The TazPad V2 has a 7-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 CPU with ARM Mali-400 MP GPU and runs Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). The tablet comes with 8GB or 16GB of memory, WiFi and 3G connectivity as well as connections for USB, micro USB and a micro SD card.
There are two cameras on the device (a 2MP camera on the front, a 5MP camera on the back), while an ambient light sensor serves to boost reading in poor light.
Where the tablet really comes into its own is for security and near-field communication (NFC). The TazPad V2 offers the Inside Secure SecuRead NFC Module, which has been certified as safe by a consortium of the world’s largest credit card suppliers (including American Express, MasterCard and Visa), and comes with a fingerprint scanner for safe authentication.
Furthermore, the tablet even boasts ZigBee compatibility so that it can control ZigBee home automation systems.
Both companies say that the tablet is however going to be used for a number of pilots projects across Europe, South Africa, South Africa and India soon, namely in the areas of home care, eGovernment and eID applications.
