Google could well combat the likely introduction of Apple’s iPad Mini by launching two sub $200 Nexus 7 tablets by the end of 2012, according to a new report.
Citing industry sources, Taiwanese news site Digitimes claims that Google will make two new versions of the 7-inch Nexus 7, both of which will be slimmer and feature rather basic TN display panels from HannStar Display.
The report goes onto suggest that one of these tablets will debut at $199, with the other to be priced at an almost unbelievable $99. Both tablets are expected to be released in Q4 and could compete with Apple’s iPad Mini, which looks set to debut in October.
Asus, the OEM which made the first Nexus 7, refused to comment on the speculation.
Google’s original Nexus 7 debuted in June and ranges in price from $199 for the 8GB model to $249 for the in-demand 16GB edition.
