French tablet maker Archos is continuing to focus on the entry-level Android tablet market, and has announced plans to launch a new Ice Cream Sandwich model in the near future.

The 8-inch Archos Cobalt has a capacitive 1024 x 768 resolution touchscreen display, a dual-core 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, while the tablet runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

Other specs include a USB 2.0 port, a standard 3.5mm audio jack and two fairly basic cameras (2MP webcam on the rear, 0.3MP camera on the front), while a microSDHC expansion slot can be used to support up to 64GB of storage if needed.

Archos is yet to announce price and availability for this new tablet, although given both the firm’s history and the current Android tablet market, it should come in somewhere around the $200 mark.
