A senior executive from LG Electronics has confirmed that the Korean electronics giant will return to the tablet market later this year.

LG India’s head of mobile communications Steve Koh confirmed the news in an interview with tech website Gizbot, with the announcement coming just over a year since the firm first exited the tablet market.

“LG is indeed making a tablet,” Koh told the website. “And there is a possibility to see [the] new tablet sometime later this year.”

The website added that the tablet is “probably” likely to debut at the IFA exhibition in Berlin, Germany next month, where TabTimes will be reporting live.

Two unknown variants of a LG tablet recently appeared on the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. LG will certainly be hoping that any new model fares better than its first tablet, the 8.9-inch Optimus Pad, which failed to compete with similar Android models from local rival Samsung.
