Is this the first image of Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch?

by TabTimes Staff

September 2 2013

Samsung is days away from unveiling its very first smartwatch but the first images of the device are already circling the Internet.

Ahead of the expected unveiling at the IFA technology convention in Germany this week, VentureBeat writer Christina Farr got a peak at a prototype of the device.

In her report, Farr details that the watch is about 3-inches diagonally and with dark black and grey coloring, although this may change in the final version of the product.

Farr notes that the Galaxy Gear smartwatch looks “clunky and masculine” but says that Bluetooth can be used to connect with Galaxy S smartphones, tablets and potentially other Android devices too.

Wi-Fi is supported for light Internet browsing and email and there are Android apps pre-loaded for social media, health tracking and other things.

In addition, the smartwatch apparently has a 4MP camera built into a strap and small speakers integrated in the clasp. Samsung’s S Voice is reportedly included for voice commands while the Galaxy Gear has a widely-publicized 10 hour battery life.
