Intel’s next Bay Trail processors could make for even cheaper Android tablets

by TabTimes Staff

October 15 2013

Intel will reportedly launch new Bay Trail-based processors for budget Android tablets in the second quarter of 2014.

Unnamed sources from “tablet players” told Taiwanese website Digitimes that the new processors are likely to be cheaper than the current models, a sign perhaps that Intel is looking to compete directly with ARM in the low-end market.

The same sources apparently expect the CPUs to be priced between $15 and $20, about $12 than the current models.

In the past, Intel is said to have offered subsidies on its Bay Trail-T processors – including discounts for OEMs on bulk ordering – but prices supposedly remained more expensive than ARM-based quad-core processors from the likes of Nvidia, Qualcomm and Mediatek.
