Amazon ships Kindle Fire HDX 7 ahead of expected iPad mini 2 announcement

With Apple widely expected to unveil an iPad 5 and new iPad mini Tuesday, Amazon made a bit of news of its own by announcing its new Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch tablet is now shipping.

Amazon's latest Kindle Fire joins a crowded field of smaller tablets it helped take off with the release of the first Kindle Fire two years ago.

Powered by Qualcomm's latest quad-core Snapdragon 800 process, the Kindle Fire HDX has a hi res screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 and 2 GB of RAM. Amazon is also touting new screen technology it says it easier on the eyes.
