Toshiba’s new $180 Android tablet looks unlikely to compete with the Kindle Fire or Nexus 7

by TabTimes Staff

November 20 2013

Toshiba is betting heavily both on Android and Windows 8 in the tablet market, but its latest budget Android model – the Excite 7 – looks overvalued even at $180.

The tablet was announced on the quiet today but on specs at least, the Excite 7 looks nothing to write home about.

The model has a basic 7-inch 1024 x 600 resolution display, a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, and runs the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean software.

The dual-facing cameras (3MP on the rear, 0.3MP on the front) are also rather mediocre, although there is a micro SD card slot and a battery life quoted at an excellent 12.5 hours for general use.
