New Gartner report says Android has passed iPad as most popular tablet platform

A few years ago, tech research firm Gartner predicted Apple would maintain its hold on the tablet market until 2015.  But a new study has a very different outlook.

Gartner's newest study shows Android taking a decisive lead in 2013 with a 62% share of the tablet market, with iOS holding barely a third of the market at 36%.

Samsung was by far the biggest gainer in the report, growing its share last year by 336% to a 19.1% share of the tablet market.

Of course Android tablets comprise many different vendors from the low to high end. On a straight vendor comparison, Apple is still the biggest tablet supplier.
