New images suggest the iPad mini 2 is close to launch
The purported images of the second-generation iPad mini were recently published on Chinese internet forum Weiphone and appear to show a thicker case for the tablet, a sign perhaps that the 7.85-inch model will have a 2048 x 1536 resolution display.
The images also show a silver iPad mini rear bearing the Apple logo and the word “iPad” in blue. Current iPad minis have black or silver lettering.
While speculation over a Retina Display iPad mini isn’t exactly new, the fact that these images appear to show a production-ready model would suggest that Apple is migrating to a six-month product lifecycle for the iPad (the iPad mini was released in October, and just 7 months separated the third and fourth-generation iPads).
Topeka Capital analyst Brian White and Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster have previously said that Apple will launch the iPad mini with Retina Display in March, with Jaffray adding that the fifth-generation iPad could be released at the same time.
