Wondering what that Ikea bookcase or La-Z-Boy couch would look like in your house? A new app lets you play interior designer on your iPad using 3D models of popular brands. (Those brands are just examples of the concept and aren’t necessarily offered).
Autodesk has offered the free Homestyler software online for free since 2010. Now it’s been optimized for the iPad with a wide selection of 3D models of real furniture, home decor and appliances designed to let users digitally try out everything from rugs and mirrors to paint colors and light fixtures.
“The app is unique because it can transform a single snapshot into a virtual home design playground,” said Samir Hanna, VP of Consumer Products at Autodesk.
Autodesk is also pitching the Homestyler app to professional designers and brands looking to reach and engage more with consumers. The idea is that by gaining exposure on the Homestyler app these companies will be able to better communicate their design ideas and users will be able reach decisions faster in creating a vision for their home or office whether playing with new paint colors or viewing 3D models of furniture within the space.
Brands interested in participating can contact Autodesk for more details.
"Color is a critical element of design, and the new iPad app is a great way to explore the impact of different hues and the relationship between wall colors and furnishings,” said Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams, one of the companies partnering with Autodesk.
