Apple’s next iPad mini will sport a “cheaper mechanical design” and will launch for under $250 in December, according to a Citi Research analyst.

In a research note sent out to investors on Tuesday, Citi analyst Glen Yeung revealed that he expects the next iPad mini price to be significantly cheaper than the original, which starts from $329, as Apple bids to protect its market share from budget Android tablets.

As a result, Barrons reports that Yeung believes Apple to launch a new iPad mini for $200-250 in December, just in time for the holiday season.

There has been much speculation on a Retina Display iPad mini in the past, but Yeung says that Apple will instead equip the next tablet with a “similar screen resolution” and “cheaper mechanical design” in order to protect its market share from cheaper Android tablets.

Apple is also rumored to be working on a slimmer fifth-generation iPad, while one dubious report even claims that the firm could launch a tablet with a mega 12.9-inch display.
