The latest iPad mini rumor suggests that the Retina Display model won’t be launching until sometime in 2014.

Citing unnamed people in Apple’s supply chain, Taiwanese tech website Digitimes reports that there are two new iPad minis are on the horizon and claims that the first model will launch sometime in the second half of 2013.

However, sources expect this model to be a thinner and lighter upgrade on their original iPad mini, and suggest that production on the Retina Display (2048 x 1536 resolution) version won't start until later in the year.

As such, it is claimed that the Retina Display iPad mini, which will apparently sport an “almost bezel-free look”, will launch at some point in 2014.

This is by no means the first time there has been talk of a delay for the hi-res iPad mini. Just last week, Taiwan’s Economic Daily News claimed that a shortage of display panels had forced Apple to postpone the launch until early next year, a view corroborated by an earlier Digitimes report.
