Those reports of Apple working on a massive iPad may not be so wide of the mark after all, with the firm now rumoured to be working on new screen sizes for both iPhone and iPad.
Citing unnamed Apple suppliers in Asia, The Wall Street Journal claims that Apple is testing a 12.9-inch iPad and has asked its partners for “prototype smartphone screens larger than 4-inch”.
This report certainly adds weight to the rumor of Apple making a larger iPad. Korean website ETNews carried the same rumor of a 12.9-inch iPad in May and said that the model would bear the somewhat unlikely moniker of the ‘iPad maxi’.
It also appears as though the firm will look to go bigger with future iPhones too, with Reuters reporting last month that Apple is considering 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch screens for the iPhone 5, sizes which would push the Cupertino maker into the phablet category.
