Tablet website convertor ShopPad receives funding boost

by TabTimes Staff

August 29 2013

ShopPad, the ecommerce platform that converts retailers’ desktop websites into tablet-optimized experiences, has received $500,000 in seed funding.

TechCrunch reports that the firm’s software-as-a-service (Saas) technology is now used by more than 10,000 online merchants and says that the group’s latest investors include executives from PayPal.

Formed just last year by CEO Aaron Wadler, ShopPad puts one line of JavaScript on the retailer’s website to detect and redirect tablet traffic to the appropriate site.

The company deals with creating product images suitable for iPad’s Retina Display, as well as sorting offline functionality and allowing the website to respond irrespective of device orientation.

Retailers can add their own logos, fonts, image styles and colors, and all within about five minutes and without having to write a single line of code. They can also add sharing tools for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and email.

ShopPad is now available from the Shopify and Magneto ecommerce platforms. The basic version of ShopPad is free, but those wanting to add their own logo and more personalized details will have to pay $6 and upwards a month.
