There was plenty of talk and speculation leading up to today's unveiling of the new iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display. As a result, there were few if any surprises in the specs for the new iPads, but several other expected announcements never happened.
On the non-tablet front, no iWatch, new Apple HDTV or new iPods. Given we're closing in on the start of the holiday shopping season, those look like non-starters for this year.
On the tablet side, the new iPads came up short on two features some rumor mongers said were a sure bet.
At its recent debut, Apple made a big deal about the new fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5S and many expected it to show up in the new iPad as well. No such luck.
The other rumor that emerged just last week was that Apple would introduce a new Smart Cover for the iPad with an integrated keyboard that would compete with Microsoft's Touch Cover for its Surface tablets. Nope.
