Some rock bands are finding new ways to connect with their fans beyond iTunes and Pandora and social media.

Boston area-based rock band The Singhs has released a free iPad app to promote the group and its latest album Science Fiction.

The iPad app, called Science Fiction, is designed to act like a portal or gateway to content from the band, including, photos, videos, and streamed live performances. The Singhs say content in the app isn’t static; instead the band plans to keep it current in an "episodic" fashion, with new music and videos appearing as updates.

The group says the app will also serve, in later versions, as a testing ground for new ways of distributing music.

Science Fiction was produced by legendary Grammy-winning music producer Tony Visconti who has worked such performers as David Bowie, T. Rex, Moody Blues, Morrissey, Thin Lizzy, Paul McCartney, Angelique Kidjo, and John Hiatt.
