Apple shuns discounts for gift cards in time for Black Friday

Apple looks set to disappoint those who were hoping for a discounted iPad, Mac or iPhone over the Black Friday sales weekend, by offering Apple Store gift cards with selected purchases instead.

Apple’s Australian website was the first to detail the company’s deals which are available both online and in-store.

The offers include a $150 AUD ($137 USD) Apple Store gift card when you buy a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air or iMac or a $75 AUD (approximately $68 USD) gift card when you pick up the new iPad Air. Buyers splashing out on the iPad mini or iPad 2 will get a card worth $50 USD (roughly $46).

These prices may of course be tweaked for the U.S. market, although presumably Apple will detail the discounts for that region in due course.

Apple announced earlier this week that it would hold a one-day "Apple shopping event" on Friday, 29 November.
