Which company generates the most revenue making chips for tablets? Apple has consistently led the pack, but after that the leader board keeps changing.
The market for tablet processors is huge, growing 30% year-over-year according to the latest figures by Strategy Analytics.
Among the top five, Apple dominated in Q3 with a 40% revenue share of the tablet application processor market followed by Qualcomm with a 13% revenue share and Intel at 8%.
Strategy Analytics credits Qualcomm’s recent design wins, specifically the newest Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Fire HDX for its rise.
“This is quite a dramatic change in position as the company hadn't even made it to the top-five just two quarters ago,” notes Strategy Analytics’ senior analyst Sravan Kundojjala.
“The non-Apple tablet applications processor market leadership continues to be a game of musical chairs and previously we have seen NVIDIA, Samsung and Texas Instruments taking the lead at some time in the past few years."
