Lumosity has greatly heightened consumer awareness of so-called brain-training games with a high profile series of national TV ads, but there are also plenty of competitors.

The latest, Brain+, which comes from Denmark, launched its free “brain-training regimen” app for the iPad and iPhone in the U.S. , Canada and the UK today.

The company says the series of fun and motivating mind-training games improve key mental capabilities in the areas of attention, memory, problem solving and planning and was developed in collaboration with leading brain scientists from Copenhagen University.

“We believe that to achieve the right amount of brain-training intensity and duration, you need to be engaged and immersed,” said Brain+ CEO Kim Baden-Kristensen. “We achieve this by designing our exercises more like traditional mobile games and less like clinical exercises, whereas our competition utilize a more traditional exercise approach.”
