iPad 4 could have carbon fiber body, flexible widescreen display with integrated speakers

The iPad rumor mill may have gone quiet recently with the iPad Mini nearing launch, but all that looks set to change now the first iPad 4 reports have surfaced.

The first of these rumors came from tech site Examiner which, citing an industry analyst, reported that the next-generation iPad could feature a 16:9 widescreen display.

“I have talked to at least three people close to Apple who say that there are new iPad prototypes that have a 16:9 aspect ratio,” Los Angeles analyst Paul Mueller.

“They aren't talking about the upcoming iPad Mini either.”

The 16:9 aspect ratio already features on the new iPhone 5 and is commonly used for widescreen HD TVs.

Following on from that and it appears as though Apple could make this a flexible display with built-in speakers, according to Unwired View.

The source discovered that Apple had filed a new patent for a flexible display with integrated speakers to provide surround sound patent, and said that these displays could be convex or concave.

That may not be the last of the design changes to the iPad 4 either, with a report from Japanese blog Macotakara claiming that Apple is ordering a number of carbon fiber parts, perhaps hinting that the material could feature on the iPad 4 (or next-generation iPhone).

Back in 2010, AppleInsider discovered an Apple patent which detailed how the material could make the iPad stronger and lighter, something which would no doubt appeal to travelling business workers.
