Apple has reportedly started mass producing a smaller iPad, which has a 7.85-inch display and 3G connectivity, according to sources.
Citing Asian component suppliers for the news, The Wall Street Journal reports that Taiwan’s AU Optronics and South Korea’s LCD Display started mass producing these 7.85-inch displays last month, with the newspaper adding that the display has a lower resolution than the 2048 x 1536 Retina Display on the iPad 3.
This news follows on from a separate report, courtesy of Ukrainian iPhone, which shows purported images of the iPad Mini with a nano-SIM slot for 3G connectivity.
It is rumored that Apple will announce the tablet at a press event on October 10 before launching the tablet just a week later.
The model is expected to retail for between $249 and $329.
