BlackBerry may be planning a smartphone or "phablet" that's much bigger than the current BlackBerry Z10 (shown above).

Even as BlackBerry admits it will entertain buyout offers or possibly take the company private, the smartphone maker is also moving ahead on the product front.

The Z30 smartphone is rumored to have a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with (1,280 x 720 resolution) which is big enough to be considered one of the new generation of over-sized smartphone/kind-of-a-tablet devices that are often referred to as a phablet.

The Z30 will run the latest version of the BlackBerry OS (vers. 10.2), powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a large (2800 mAh) rechargeable battery inside.

TheStreet.com spotted some leaked photos and video on Vietnamese websites that claim to show the new Z30. A BlackBerry spokesperson said the company doesn't "comment on rumor and speculation."

In a statement that was released earlier today, the company confirmed that a special committee will enquire about possible joint ventures, strategic partnerships or even the sale of the company, but stressed that "there can be no assurance that this process will result in any transaction."

BlackBerry, once the leader in business interface by addressing the demands of corporate communications, has become an afterthought. Now they are making conflicting announcements. Yesterday, it was, "Will somebody buy us out, please!" Today, it is, "We have a new product idea, ....we think."

What did they do overnight? Did they get everybody together with an emergency conference call and ask for brainstorming? Did somebody suggest that they knew some guy in Viet Nam who knows some guy in China that could "white box" a phablet? Did the guy tell everyone that the new phablet was last years specs, but it won't matter because its much better than our latest product that is 2009 specs?

The conversation undoubtedly sounded a little like this.....

"The most important thing is that you guys can buy the "white box" in quantity 10 million at a really cheap price..... if you hurry. You can stick your name on it..... otherwise these guys are going to dump the whole supply through inventory liquidators."

"Yeah, Yeah, I know you guys think I'm trying to push this thing down your throat bcause you think I know your hurting, but, listen to me......I hear somebody like QVC is about ready to pull the trigger on the whole shipment, and I hate to see you guys missing out on a deal like this......After-all, it's likely to save your company and your jobs." .....You know me, have I ever led you guys into something that didn't work? ...... "Alright, but that wasn't my fault, I thought Android was just a flash in the pan and so did you."

"....Is the device an Android?..... Yeah, yeah, but everything is nowadays, and it even has 4.1 but it's not up-gradable, ..... but listen, I know some guys, who know some guys, that can can load your BlackBerry OS version 10.2 into it. Yeah, it would be killer. Everyone will think you are on top of your game all over again. ..... Listen, you guys have got to hurry on this thing, I can't keep them hanging, I got to let them know by sometime tomorrow."

"Okay, I'll tell them know we have a deal, and you guys can make a press release about this great 5" phone, .....and make sure you call it a "phablet," it sounds much more cutting edge than......"another big phone."
