Microsoft is reportedly planning to ship a Preview version of Office 2013 on ARM-powered Windows RT tablets.
Citing people familiar with the matter, The Verge says that Microsoft is removing Office features like macros, third-party add-ins and VBA support to ensure Office 2013 RT is energy efficient and runs reliably on Windows RT tablets.
The source does however expect Microsoft to enable the Preview edition to be upgraded to the final edition of the Office suite in early 2013, and claims that Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 RT will come preinstalled on all Windows RT devices.
Microsoft replied to this on-going speculation by saying that it has not ‘finalized any packaging for the next release of Office’.
Microsoft's own-brand Surface tablets (powered by ARM and Intel chipsets) will be the first Windows 8 tablets on the market, and are due to launch on October 26. Windows 8 tablets from the likes of Samsung, HP, Dell, Asus and Lenovo are expected before the year is out.
