Finnish handset maker Nokia could unveil a Windows 8 tablet at its Windows 8 Phone press event in New York today, according to a new rumor.

This rumor comes courtesy of tech site Slash Gear, which cited numerous reports from Finland for the information. Nokia's tablet will reportedly run Windows 8 or Windows RT, boast a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and feature a 10-inch display.

That’s all we know at this stage, but stay tuned to TabTimes to keep up to date with Nokia and Microsoft’s Windows 8 Phone announcement, which takes place at 6:30 a.m. PT / 9:30 a.m. ET today.

Nokia is expected to make a Windows 8 tablet and hinted at that very possibility on several occasions over the last year.

Outgoing chairman Jorma Ollila told the Financial Times in May that the firm would be making Windows 8 tablets, including some hybrid designs. CEO Stephen Elop admitted earlier in the year that the company would be looking “very carefully” at the opportunity offered by tablets on Microsoft's new operating system.
