U.S. wireless carrier will start selling Asus’ VivoTab RT and Samsung’s Ativ Smart PC Windows 8 tablets in time for holiday season sales.
AT&T claims to be the only U.S. carrier offering these tablets, and says that both models will be available in AT&T company-owned retail stores, as well as online at www.wireless.att.com.
The VivoRT was announced by Asus in last August and comes with a 10.1-inch Super IPS display, quad-core Tegra 3 processor, the Windows RT OS (the version of Windows 8 for ARM devices), 4G LTE connectivity and 32GB of internal storage.
Samsung also took the wraps off its 11.6-inch Ativ Smart PC tablet in August, with the model having a dual-core 1.5GHz Clover Trail processor (meaning it runs the Intel version of Windows 8), 64GB of internal storage and coming with a detachable keyboard dock.
The VivoTab RT comes pre-loaded with a preview version of Office Home and Student 2013, while the Ativ Smart PC includes a trial of Office 2013.
Price details have not yet been announced, although previous reports claim Windows RT tablets will sell for $400-500, with Windows 8 models selling for around $800. Asus, meanwhile, plans to apparently sell its Vivo Tab RT tablet for $599, with the Intel-powered Vivo Tab going for $799.
