New information suggests that Microsoft's family of Surface tablets will start at a very respectable $300.
How-to website and publisher Dummies.com announced a competition in which it said that the lucky winner would receive a Surface tablet (running Windows RT) as well as a copy of the books Windows 8 for Dummies and Surface for Dummies.
The competition, first reported on by Microsoft News, said that the prize was worth $350. Given, then, that the Windows 8 and Surface books are priced at $24.99 and $19.99 respectively, that would leave the Surface tablet at an approximate but very reasonable price of $305.
This guesswork would certainly tie-in with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s own hint that the Surface tablet could hit the 'sweet spot' between $300 and $800.
Microsoft announced last week that the first Surface tablets will become available at midnight on October 26, just hours after the official unveiling of Windows 8.
