Geared up for those working in construction, transportation, public safety and other types of field work, the Yuma 2 weighs less than three pounds and is said to feature new display technology to make for better readability in direct sunlight.

The specs of the tablet illustrate that this is a tough and powerful device. There is a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 64GB SSD and a dual battery with an average run time of eight hours.

Cellular connectivity is optional through the 3.75G dual-mode cellular module, while other optional extras include a 128GB SSD and an extended battery set for up to 16 hours of operation.

The tablet’s multi-touch display can be controlled by fingers, a stylus of capacitive gloves, while the device can be used in landscape or portrait mode.

There is also a 5MP camera for video and photo capture with geo-tagging, while Trimble says that the tablet adheres to MIL-STD-810G (military) and IP65 standards to protect from drops, vibration, humidity, as well as dust and water.

The Trimble Yuma 2 is expected to become available in the fourth quarter. Pricing information was not available at the time of going to press.
