After abandoning the 'Metro' name, Microsoft reveals that Windows 8 applications will now be known as "Windows 8 Store Applications".

Microsoft’s user experience advisor Will Tschumy confirmed the news at the BUILD developer conference, where he was speaking in a session entitled "The Principles of Microsoft Design".

Microsoft had previously branded these tiled, touch-optimized apps as having a ‘Metro’ user interface, but was forced to abandon that particular phrase in August when German retailer Metro threatened legal action relating the copyright.

The Redmond firm then briefly then promoted the apps as having a ‘Modern UI' before settling on the new name.
