Despite launching Surface and Windows 8, Bill Gates is ‘not satisfied’ with Microsoft’s innovations
In an interview with CBS This Morning recently, Gates – who stepped away from the firm to concentrate on the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation) – spoke on everything from Windows 8 to the company’s lack of success in the mobile phone market.
And when asked if he was happy with the performance of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Gates certainly pulled no punches.
“Well, he and I are two of the most self-critical people -- you can imagine," said Gates. "And here were a lot of amazing things that Steve's leadership got done with the company in the last year. Windows 8 is key to the future, the Surface computer. Bing, people are seeing as a better search product, Xbox."
"But is -- is it enough? No, he and I are not satisfied that in terms of, you know, breakthrough things, that we're doing everything possible."
Gates went onto admit that Microsoft was late to the mobile phone market and said that the way the company went about entering that market was “clearly a mistake”.
