Rumor: Microsoft to unveil more than one new Surface tablet in June

Microsoft is apparently working on more than one new Surface tablet

Microsoft is apparently gearing up to announce new 7-inch to 9-inch Surface tablets at its Build developer conference in late June.

The Redmond software giant has previously been rumored to be working on as many as three new tablets, including a 7-inch Surface and an Xbox-branded model for mobile gamers, and at least one of these devices could become reality if a new report is to be believed.

Taiwanese news website Digitimes, a constant if unreliable source of tablet rumors, cited supply chain makers for the information and claimed that these new Windows 8 models will be put together by the same component makers who built the original Surface RT and Surface Pro.

It has been claimed that Microsoft only started working on a 7-inch Surface after the launch of Apple’s iPad mini, although market research firm IDC recently warned that a smaller Surface is not guaranteed to be a success.
