Whoops: First small screen Windows 8 tablet accidentally shows up on Amazon

The first of what’s expected to be a series of smaller screen Windows 8 tablets was apparently shown on Amazon.com briefly today by mistake. The online ad for the unannounced new device was quickly taken down.

The mistake might been as a result of confusion (on someone’s part) over what Acer was officially releasing. Earlier today, Acer announced several new tablet models, but the Acer Iconia W3-810-1600 was not among them; that’s the model with an 8.1-inch screen.

To date, Windows 8 tablets have been 10.1-inches are larger, but Microsoft has released newer developer tools that will enable the OS to run on smaller screen tablets. The first round of Windows 8 tablets were released late last year, just as interest in smaller tablets was starting to take off.

As PC World points out, the specs in the ad indicate an x86 processor for the W3, which means the 1.1-pound tablet will run full Windows 8 OS, not Windows RT.
