Best Buy deal supercharges Microsoft's Windows 8 retail push

by TabTimes Staff

June 13 2013

Microsoft announced it will open 500 special stores within existing Best Buy stores in the U.S. The stores will feature Windows-based tablets, computers and other Microsoft products.

The software giant says the deal will add more than 1,200 Best Buy Microsoft-trained sales associates to help customers. Microsoft already has a chain of 70 or so of its own Microsoft Stores and kiosks within shopping malls

The news comes two months after Samsung announced a similar deal to offer Samsung-focused stores at Best Buy.

Microsoft plans to release an updated version of Windows 8 - Windows 8.1 - and is also expected to release new, smaller versions of its Surface tablet which will undoubtedly be featured at the Best Buy Windows Stores.
