Lenovo today announced the Miix tablet, a 10.1-inch Windows 8 model that will launch for "later this summer" for approximately $500. The tablet will include a free detachable keyboard.

The firm has said that the slate has a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 resolution IPS display, runs a dual-core Intel Atom processor and comes with 64GB of built-in eMMC storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card.

The tablet is said to weigh just 1.2 pounds, is 0.4 inches thick and boasts a battery life of up to 10 hours. It comes with Wi-Fi as standard but 3G-GPS connectivity is optional.

But perhaps most impressive of all is the Miix's price of $500, which includes a free keyboard cover. Microsoft’s own Surface RT, which runs Windows RT, usually retails for around the same value but comes minus a Touch or Type Cover.

Miix may well be an emerging new brand from Lenovo. Back at Computex earlier this month, Microsoft officials teased Lenovo’s 8-inch Windows 8 tablet, which is apparently called the ‘Miix 8’.
