It looks like we won't have too much longer to wait to see the next generation of Microsoft's Surface tablet line.
The software giant sent out invites to an event in New York on September 23 which is widely expected to include the launch its Surface 2 and Surface 2 Pro devices.
An important update to Windows 8, the Windows 8.1 release, isn't due out until mid-October, so it's highly likely that whatever Microsoft shows off in New York won't be available until then.
The Surface 2 is expected to be powered by Intel's next generation Core i5 "Haswell" processor. Intel will be discussing its mobile chip roadmap in detail at this week's IDF conference in San Francisco starting tomorrow.
Other rumored features of the new Surface tablet include a doubling of RAM from 4GB to 8GB and an improved kickstand with more options to position the viewing angle of the tablet.
