Microsoft promotes start button & smaller tiles in first ad for Windows 8.1

by Doug Drinkwater

September 30 2013

With Windows 8.1 now less than one month away, Microsoft has posted the first ad on the features of the new operating system.

The 30-second commercial shows the much-awaited return of the start button but also demoes some of the other new features, like the ability to create smaller tiles and to change the size of windows when multi-tasking.

The ad finishes by promoting how Windows 8.1 will run across Windows tablets, PCs and Microsoft Surface tablets and adds the slogan “one experience for everything in your life”.

The general public will be able to download both Windows RT 8.1 and Windows 8.1 – which was formerly codenamed ‘Blue’ – on October 18. The announcement is expected to coincide with a number of new 7-inch and 8-inch tablets running the OS update.
