Microsoft is reportedly struggling to keep up with early demand for its Surface 2 tablets.
“Several internal sources” supposedly told tech website Neowin that the Surface 2 64GB, the Surface Pro 2 256GB and Surface Pro 2 512MB are all backordered, as well as the Touch Cover and the Type Cover in purple and black. One other Surface accessory, the new Arc Mouse, is also apparently out of stock.
This is outstanding news for Microsoft, especially as the tablets only went up for pre-order on September 24, but cynics are likely to argue that Microsoft has lightly stocked the channel this time around.
After all, the Redmond company was forced to write-down $900 million on unsold Surface RT tablets in July and outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer even later admitted that the company had built too many tablets. "We built a few more devices than we could sell," he admitted at the time.
