Microsoft's new Surface tablets are due to hit retail stores later this month

Microsoft gives a brief behind-the-scenes glimpse on how it made the Surface 2 tablets and the new Touch Cover in a new company video.

The 90-second video sees a number of Microsoft execs talk through the main features of the Surface 2 tablets as well as a more extensive breakdown on the new Touch Cover, which has more sensors as well as backlit keys for the first time.

The video may not be news to those of you who checked out our coverage of the Surface 2 launch in New York last month but is nonetheless a handy summary of what buyers can expect from the new tablets.

Microsoft is expected to launch the Surface 2 and Surface 2 Pro on October 22 but is already fast running out of the Windows 8 tablets, according to reports.
