Microsoft pegs Surface tablet revenue for Q3 at $500 Million

by TabTimes Staff

April 24 2014

Microsoft's just released fiscal third quarter 2014 financial results included details about sales of its Surface tablets and Office 365 subscription software designed for mobile and remote device users.

The company reported Surface revenue for the quarter of $500 million. That compares to the past two sequential quarters of top line revenue for Microsoft's Windows hybrid tablet of $893 million and $400 million.

While Surface has been gaining interest, particularly in corporate circles, it's overall market share remains in the low single digits.

But the company recently introduced updates to Windows 8.1 that address some of the concerns over its usability and a more fully touch-centric version of Office in the works along the lines of the recently introduced Office for iPad apps.

Microsoft also reported that there are now 4.4 million Office 365 Home subscribers, up “nearly” 1 million in the quarter. Office 365 revenue on the Commercial side of Microsoft’s business “grew over 100%,” compared to the year-ago period.

(Jane Boulware, VP of Microsoft's Devices Business in the U.S., will share info on the newest Surface tablet and other devices as well as customer use cases at the Tablet Strategy conference in New York on May 6, 2014)
